A baby’s baptism turns into a nightmare when Baron and Baroness von Wilhjelm’s young son is kidnapped by itinerant musicians. Mother and son are reunited after 20 years apart, when the band of travelers sets up camp at the very same estate where the Baroness resides. Raphael, as he is now named, has become a handsome young man whom women swoon over; He is caught in the middle of an intense battle for his affections between the Count’s daughter Inger and the crafty and lovelorn Zelma, who will stop at nothing to make sure Raphael is hers.

Magda, a piano teacher, meets Knud, a parson’s son, who invites her to spend the summer at his parents’ parsonage. Part of the artificial-creature series encompassing Der Golem (1914 and 1920), Alraune (1918, 1928, 1930) and Metropolis (1926), 'Homunculus' was the most popular serial in Germany during World War I even influencing the dress of fashionable Berlin. Foenss, a Danish star, is the perfect creature manufactured in a laboratory by Kuehne. Having discovered his origins, that he has no 'soul' and is incapable of love, he revenges himself on mankind, instigating revolutions and becoming a monstrous but beautiful tyrant, relentlessly pursued by his creator-father who seeks to rectify his mistake.

Ayan, Maharajah of Eschnapur, believes that his wife, Princess Savitri, has been unfaithful to him with officer Mac Allan. He decides to bury her alive, so he sends the Yogi Ramigani to England to look for Herbert Rowland, an architect; but when he orders him to build a tomb, Rowland refuses.

Not long after the wedding, the snake charmer gets involved in a variety show, and to the bear tamer’s horror, one evening he watches how she’s seduced by a rich man who takes her home. Mr Vang, a clerk, has just moved into the fourth floor of a block of flats – and he has already gained a reputation as something of a troublemaker. She hopes to meet him face to face soon so that she can give him a thorough talking-to – and her wish is about to come true in a quite unexpected way.
