Time Conqueror

Eleven directors from eleven countries each contribute an eleven-minute short reflecting on the events of 11 September 2001: A village teacher in Iran tries to explain to her young students what's happened; city kids in Burkina Faso think they've spotted Osama bin Laden; a deaf Frenchwoman in Manhattan writes a Dear John letter to a man who left that morning for work at the World Trade Center; a Chilean remembers Allende; events recall other deaths; a mother endures more than her son's death. Tones vary, as do the locales. Most concern coming to terms with the events of the day, but at least one confronts the viewer with tragedy and death.

Summer of 1967. La Goulette, a touristic beach of Tunisia, is the site where three seventeen-year-old girls live: Gigi, Sicilian and Catholic; Meriem, Tunisian and Muslim; Tina, French and Jewish. They would like to have their first sexual experience during that summer, challenging their families. Their fathers, Youssef, Jojo and Giuseppe, are old friends and their friendship will be in crisis because of the girls, while Hadj, an old rich Arab, would like to marry Meriem.

A pair of men try to perform the dangerous "triple" in their trapeze act. Problems arise when the duo is made into a trio following the addition of a sexy female performer.

Edouard Binet, an aimless Frenchman, has been travelling in North Africa for many years, and is sailing to Belgium. En route, he meets Sylvie Baron. He introduces her to Nemrod Lobetoum, a rich Egyptian carrying valuable jewelry, and Sylvie and Nemrod become friends. Their friendship escalates to love, which makes Edouard jealous. Days later, Edouard arrives at a rooming house owned by Mme. Louise Baron, Sylvie's mother, wearing blood-stained clothes. It appears that Nemrod was killed on a train after he arrived in France, but Edouard denies any knowledge of what happened. Sylvie suspects that Edouard is responsible for Nemrod's death, but by now her mother has become Edouard's ally.

50-year-old Victor Ganz owns a thriving civil engineering company that operates worldwide. The lives of residents in an old Cairo building, "The Yacoubian Building," are affected by issues like corruption, extremism, class disparity, and sexuality. Through diverse characters, the film offers a critical examination of Egyptian society.

In the 12th century's Andalusia lives Ibn Rushd a prominent Islamic philosopher with his wife Zeinab and daughter Salma. The principality is ruled by Khalifa ElMansour who has two sons, ElNasser, an intellectual that likes Ibn Rush and is in love with his daughter Salma. The younger son Abdallah is more into dancing and poetry, spending most of his times with the gypsy family and getting the daughter pregnant. The Khalifa is depending on the extremists to build his army granting them more power which they use to combat artists and philosophers. The extremists succeed in recruiting Abd Allah and train him to kill his father. Events go on where Marawan, the gypsy singer, is killed and Ibn Rushd's books are burnt. After we last see him in "Alexandria, Why?" Egyptian filmmaker Yehia Mourad is in his thirties, and successful in his work, he has grown distant from his wife and children and suffers a symbolic blockage of the heart while shooting the final scenes of his latest film. After being flown to England for evaluation, it's determined that Yehia must undergo emergency surgery. Fact and fiction blend seamlessly—with healthy doses of cleverly absurdist fantasy—as the film explores the various personalities and forces that have made Yehia (and Youssef Chahine) the man he has become.

Amin is unjustly imprisoned after three of his coworkers, Mahfouz, Shaker, and Anwar, give false testimony against him. After Amin dies in prison, his son Nabil returns from America and discovers that his father was innocent. However, he realizes that proving his innocence is now pointless, so he decides to take revenge on the three coworkers responsible for his father’s imprisonment and eventual death from grief and despair.

Iman is surprised that her brother Hossam is in a relationship with actress Nahed. His ideal image collapses and she decides to abandon her morals. She invites Sherif to the house in the absence of Hossam,and he discovers that she has no previous experiences so he decides to marry her.

A poor man starts working in a casino and gets bedazzled by the rich people he sees. As he takes his family to show them the casino after hours, they get arrested for breaking into the casino.

The film revolves around the cinematographer Rami Qashua, who begins to succeed in the cinema through the texts he writes, but his bad luck imprints it in an unenviable predicament when one of his texts ends up being written by a clerical writer on the typewriter. He performs the literal implementation of everything that happens in the scenario of theft and murder, and collaborates with journalist Sawsan in order to beat him.

The film revolves around an engineer working for an oil company in Dubai. He had to return to Egypt after twenty years. He was surprised that the Israeli Embassy was next to his apartment and was trying hard to sell the apartment at first.

The film that established Abdel Sayed as a pioneer of New Realism in Egyptian cinema tells the story of two friends who rose from the bottom to the top of society through suspicious dealmaking, in a story full of love, anger, and betrayal.

An adaptation of “Crime and Punishment", a young educated man's descent into madness and paranoia after committing a crime, and finding comfort in the company of kind-hearted but abused poor prostitute in the middle of his turmoil.
