Ramany Vs Ramany

1998 TV Show Comedy

Swathi Family Entertainer presents here, the first ever Tamil comedy play in the "sitcom" format, directed by Naga of Marmadesam fame. The era of Min Bimbangal in Tamil Television (1990 - 2005) was a golden era of riveting, taut, intelligent, engaging and meaningful serials, all lush with life. The oeuvre of Min Bimbangal encompassed a broad range of genres, including sitcoms, soaps, homegrown thrillers and chat shows; every one of them being trend setters par excellence. The home being a Moral Instruction Class of his dominating mother, Mr. Ramany is a potential candidate for the couch. His dream was to flee to the US of A like a normal urban Indian, but his family had other plans; to shackle his ankle, as they say in Tamil, to Ms. Ramany. The influence of the wanna-be generations on one side and the overdose of Sai Baba bhajans on the other, she is equally, a candidate for the couch.

A multigenerational, working-class family experience life's struggles with faith, love and, most importantly, humor. Curtis, aka 'Pops', the uncle and head of the household, has house and home turned upside down when an unexpected event forces his nephew, CJ, and CJ’s kids to move in, putting three generations under one roof. This chaotic living situation takes its toll on cranky Pops, who is reluctant to have his routine disturbed. In addition to CJ’s family, Pops and Ella’s son, Calvin, a wise-cracking, broke college student, hangs out at home, making it impossible for any peace and quiet. It soon becomes evident just how wide the gap is, as the family tries to find a way to coexist through all of life’s hilarious ups and downs.

When he discovers a box of condoms in her bedroom, though, he decides the time has come to move her to a more wholesome and nurturing environment: the suburbs. But behind the beautiful homes and perfect lawns lurk the Franken-moms, spray tans, nose jobs, and Red Bull-guzzling teens who have nothing in common with Tessa. It’s a whole new world, one that makes George wonder if they haven’t jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire.
