Pascal Rophé conducts Berio, Mahler and Gísladóttir With Stéphane Degout

Continuation and conclusion of Rachmaninov's complete piano concertos: Conducted by Dima Slobodeniouk, Mikhail Pletnev and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France perform concertos Nos. 3 and 4.

Mikhail Pletnev and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France embark on an ambitious musical adventure: performing all of Rachmaninov's piano concertos. They begin with concertos Nos. 1 and 2, conducted by Dima Slobodeniouk.

Opera based on the story of Edward II and Piers Gaveston. Music by George Benjamin, libretto by Martin Crimp. BBC broadcast of the 2018 premiere at the Royal Opera House, the composer conducting, prefaced by commentary and interviews.

The RAI National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Pascal Rophé and featuring Louis Lortie and Hélène Mercier on piano, performs: Veress, "Hommage à Paul Klee", a fantasia for two pianos and string orchestra; and Ravel, "Concerto for the Left Hand" for piano and orchestra.

After ten years of loyal service at the helm of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Mikko Franck is flying off to new musical horizons. Before bidding farewell, the conductor and the ensemble offer us a final concert, featuring pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet.

Rufus Wainwright has composed a requiem in memory of those lost to the Covid-19 pandemic. This ode to life uses the full power of the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra and features actress Meryl Streep.

Melody Gardot performs her new album Sunset in the Blue, from the Radio France studios accompanied by a trio of musicians and 40 instrumentalists from the in-house orchestra.

Rossini's "Le Comte Ory" tells the story of a libidinous and cunning nobleman who disguises himself first as a hermit and then as a nun in order to gain access to the virtuous Countess Adele, whose brother is away at the Crusades. The 2011 Met production was directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher, who presented the action as an opera within an opera, updating the action by a few centuries and giving the costume designer, Catherine Zuber, the opportunity to create some particularly extravagant headgear. Juan Diego Florez starred as the title role while Diana Damrau plays Countess Adele, and Joyce DiDonato was in breeches as his pageboy Isolier. Conducted with verve and finesse by Maurizio Benini, the production also features the stylish French baritone Stephane Degout as Ory's bibulous conspirator Raimbaud, charismatic Italian bass Michele Pertusi as the Count's long-suffering Tutor, and, formidable as Adele's housekeeper Ragonde, the Swedish dramatic mezzo Susanne Resmark.

In this new "Marriage of Figaro", Jérémie Rhorer revisits this composer and US film director James Gray makes his first foray into opera. This opera is recorded for broadcast by Louise Narboni.

From the ‘Arturo Toscanini’ Auditorium in Turin, as part of the Rai NuovaMusica series, conductor Pascal Rophé presents ‘Gli occhi che si fermano’ for orchestra by Francesco Antonioni and the Italian premiere of ‘T.S.D.’ for cello and orchestra by Giya Kancheli, performed by cellist Mario Brunello. The second half of the evening is entirely dedicated to the great Hungarian composer Peter Eötvös with ‘Reading Malevich’ for orchestra and ‘Dialog mit Mozart’, a piece for orchestra.

Disillusioned with life, the aged philosopher Faust calls upon Satan to help him. The devil Méphistophélès appears and strikes a bargain with the philosopher: he will give him youth and the love of the beautiful Marguerite, if Faust hands over his soul. Faust agrees, and Méphistophélès arranges matters so that Marguerite loses interest in her suitor Siébel and becomes infatuated with Faust. Faust initially seems to love Marguerite in return, but soon abandons her. Her brother Valentin returns from the war and is furious to find his sister pregnant. Will Faust repent his destructive actions, and can his soul, and Marguerite's, be saved?

This release from Erato consists of highlights from the live concert of April 15, 2017 in the city of Strasbourg in eastern France. A magnificent cast of singers, predominantly Francophone, assembled under the baton of John Nelson, an acknowledged master of Berlioz’s music who has conducted Les Troyens more frequently than anyone else over a period of more than 40 years; he made his name with the piece when he led performances at New York’s Metropolitan Opera in 1974 and enjoyed great acclaim for a production at the Frankfurt Opera shortly before the Strasbourg concerts.

Romain, a handsome young man in his thirties, only thinks about his work and never reveals his emotions. He can't manage to "flirt" with girls. His older brother Luc, who has become a screenwriter, is homosexual and never stops putting his brother down. However, the two brothers get along better than they seem to. Their father has a neurodegenerative disease and must be placed in a specialized institution. This ordeal will allow Romain to better understand himself as a man.
