At the urging of her childhood friend Brémontier, Lucie de Kéradec, a wealthy widowed countess who wishes to remarry, invites all of her seven suitors to her mansion. The experience is a success in that each of the potential husbands reveals his inner nature but a failure when it comes to finding a new life partner. After several comic twists and turns (including the temporary loss of the necklace), we learn that the starlet was hired by Mrs. Onnis to have her husband caught in the act of infidelity, a contract between the spouses stipulating that the unfaithful member of the household would pay 100 million francs to the other. Willis's dedication enables Annibal to catch his wife in the act. The Onnis are happily reunited, and Liliane and Willis Jr. look to the future with a smile.

Serenade represented the return to the screen of international favorite Lillian Harvey after an absence of two years. Based loosely on the life of composer Franz Schubert, the film casts Bernard Lancret as Schubert, Harvey as his dancer sweetheart, and Louis Jouvet as a possessive Baron who has his own designs on our heroine.

Somewhat reminiscent of 'Mädchen in Uniform' (1931), the story is set in a private girl's school, populated almost exclusively by children from broken homes. Among the few students who can claim family stability is Micheline Presle, but even her happiness is threatened when her lawyer father Andre Luguet inaugurates an affair with stage actress Jacqueline Debulac. With the help of Debulac's daughter Louisa Carletti, Presle is able to break up her father's romance and deliver him into the open arms of her mother Marcelle Chantal.

On his way out of a wedding, a young boy named Peachskin finds a jewel by chance. Bringing it back to its owner, she becomes his benefactress in the years that pass.
