Laughter of Others

In this film, Laerte conjugates the body in the feminine, and scrutinizes concepts and prejudices. Not in search of an identity, but in search of un-identities. Laerte creates and sends creatures to face reality in the fictional world of comic strips as a vanguard of the self. And, on the streets, the one who becomes the fiction of a real character. Laerte, of all the bodies, and of none, complicates all binaries. In following Laerte, this documentary chooses to clothe the nudity beyond the skin we inhabit.

Inspired by the US paper “Gay Sunshine”, in April of 1978 appeared in Brazil – during the dictatorship – the newspaper “O Lampião”, depicting the point of view of gays on various issues, including sexuality. A group of journalists and writers from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo joined the project, fueling a publication that paved the way for the press at the time, addressing controversial issues at the period, such as racism, abortion, drugs and prostitution.

The documentary reconstructs the history of Graúna, one of the most famous comic characters in Brazil during the '70s. Analyzing creator Henfil's usage of this poor, little, female blackbird to criticize the social inequities and censorship in Brazil of the time, testimonies from family and fellow cartoonists shed light into why "Reading Again Graúna" is still relevant today.

An emotional geographic reading of the city of São Paulo, created through hundreds of love stories from its residents. Neighborhoods, streets, parks and houses that sometimes no longer exist, or are invisible to most people, come to life in the stories told by the inhabitants.

On New Year's night, Sandro suffers a heart attack and needs to have an emergency transplant. Diogo's 20th high school class reunion is coming up, and although he's married, sees it as an opportunity to hook up with his high school crush who will also be at the reunion. He and his wife have a young son, and everything is lined up so he can go to the reunion alone, hook up with the woman, and go home without his wife suspecting anything. Unfortunately for him, his wife's mother breaks her arm the night of the reunion and can't watch their son. Diogo scrambles to find a babysitter, ultimately settling on a nursery in a strange building. He goes to the party, meets up with the crush, but then has to leave. He and his three friends then go back to the nursery and pick up his son, who is wearing his favorite dog mask. While Diogo and his friends are on their way back to the reunion (he still hasn't hooked up with his former crush) he removes the dog mask and realizes the boy isn't his.

A group of three youtubers who call themselves experts in supernatural beings decide to win public recognition once and for all. For this they plot a plan to capture a being known to all. It is the spirit of a light-haired woman who died in an unknown way and who haunts the bathrooms of schools across the country: the blonde in the bathroom.

In the film, actor Leandro Hassum plays lawyer Michelle Barbieri, known as Mike. The company where he works is bought by an office that decides to keep only women in its positions. However, the character is not fired, since, due to her name, the HR department believes that she is a woman. The character then starts dressing in women's clothing to stay in his job.

But after he saved Argentina's greatest ace from a kidnapping, on the eve of the World Cup, he ended up becoming the nation's number 1 public enemy. That's when the sex shop manager Bia Alpinistinha, a medium and her very crazy mother, enters the scene.

In a convention of youtubers, the characters enter into various conflicts since they are all in search of fame at any price.

Bernadinho and Pedro are students and face the classic tasks of fulfilling school obligations, taking good grades, being well behaved and complying with school rules, increasingly elaborated thanks to director Ademar. Frustrated, Pedro ends up finding a diary of how to cause chaos in school without being caught, which leads the two friends to follow the tips of the notebook.
