The film takes place in a small town in Bihar (now Jharkhand). All the main characters belong to a Bengali Christian community established there. Bhramar is a teenager who lives with her father and stepmother. She is quiet and lonely, and remains sad because her relationship with her stepmother is not good. She has a good singing voice but cannot tell anyone about her desire to become a singer.

Shiromoni, a village priest sends his son on an errand to the house of Mr. Mukherjee. On his return Kashinath discovers his father is no more. With no kin to support him Mr. Mukherjee suggests that Kashinath should move over to live with Mr. Pitambar Chakraborty, the zamindar [Landlord]. Kashinath however, is in no mood to leave Mr. Mukherjee's home as he has started to grow attached to Mukherjee's daughter Bindu.

When Byomkesh Bakshi's new client, Dr. Nishanath Sen, is murdered at Golap Colony, he decides to probe into the case with the help of his close aide, Ajit.

Mithu Mukherjee (Khuku) was helped by Uttam Kumar who helped her family get her ancestral house back. At last Uttam Kumar gave all the secret details of those people to the police and took his leave.

A nurse at a psychiatric ward gets a bit too involved in the well-being of a patient.

In Calcutta at the turn of the century, two families (one wealthier than the other but both belonging to the same caste) live in adjoining properties. Sandeep is actually involved with the criminals Krishn Chand and Abdullah who force him to plant a bomb on an international flight. Sandeep, rather unwillingly, gives in as he needs money to treat his handicapped younger brother. Although he loves a girl named Ruby, he is unable to marry her for the same reason. Jayanta takes up the name of Arun Roy and befriends Sandeep to learn more about him. And the plot thickens.

The entire family searched for the missing box but could not recover it. A private detective also searched for the box but could not find it. The story is about how it is finally discovered. Padi Pishir Barmi Baksha is an Indian Bengali adventure comedy film directed by Arundhati Devi. It is based on the children's novel of the same name by Leela Majumdar.
