The "sleepless years" in this propaganda piece by director Felix Marlassy occur on Csepel Island, an island south of Budapest that is home to an armaments factory. The factory workers are shown being exploited by imperialists, capitalists gone berserk, and fascists, more or less in that exact chronological sequence. The heavy-handed approach does much to undercut the belief that when socialism finally takes over, the lives of the workers are brought up to a human level. In this instance, audiences might prefer a more nuanced and subtle statement, no matter what the message.

A family slowly disintegrates under various pressures in late 1970s communist Hungary.

László Bagyoni is forced to flee because he published a newspaper in the small Szekler village without permission. His friend Bence Uz, who lives in the mountains, takes him in. The notary's daughter Leticia arrives in the mountains with a hunting party. Her fiancé, Jonescu, becomes jealous of Bagyoni and the trip ends in anger. Uz Bence, who has made money from the hunt, wants to marry his old lover, Julie, but she has already married someone else. At Bence's intervention, the notary cancels Bagyoni's sentence. Meanwhile, Julis' husband dies and she is left alone with the baby. Julis leaves the child in the care of Bence while she goes to the city to serve.

Years later, the memory of their first, unfulfilled love still haunts Miklós, a once poor schoolboy, and Eva, the mayor's daughter, separated by social barriers in the past and family ties today.

Based on Confession, a play by Rose Meller. Elma Bulla repeats her stage role as a young woman who takes the blame for a theft which she believes was committed by her lover. The ungrateful jerk assumes that she did commit the crime, and further supposes that she did it on behalf of his romantic rival. Throughout the rest of the film, Bulla tries to revoke her confession, only to find that no one will believe her. Only when the genuine culprit is revealed is Bulla cleared and reunited with her sweetheart -- though if ever there was a man unworthy of her devotion, it is surely this one! Devotees of newcomer Elma Bulla were thoroughly satisfied with this screen version of her theatrical triumph.

After the failure of the Kossuth's revolution of 1848, people suspected of supporting the revolution are sent to prison camps. Years later, partisans led by outlaw Sándor Rózsa still run rampant. Although the authorities do not know the identities of the partisans, they round up suspects and try to root them out by any means necessary.

In the 1600s, Hungary is plundered by the Turks and the Laban. Kecskemét, the free royal city, is not exempt from this. The town assembles its gift of jewellery, cloth and a beautiful girl, and Miska sets off for Buda. On the way, the young gypsy girl falls in love with Mishka, who elopes with her in a boy's dress. He can do this because instead of the bewitchment he hopes for, he is given only a fancy robe to protect the city. Little do they know at the time how much the robe is worth. Before its wearer, all true believers will crumble to dust and do his bidding.

In 1905 Hungary, a young village woman has just undergone a marriage to the spoiled son of a man to whom her father is indebted, in order that the debt be cancelled, only to be spirited away by her true love, a young peasant, by whom she soon becomes pregnant. Together they attempt to find a way to buy up her father's debt and also pay for a divorce from her husband, against various odds.

Marci is drafted from a typical block building in the 6th district in Pest. He says good-bye to Juli living in the same house, with whom they are both very much fond of each other, but neither of them makes a confession. Juli works in a factory, and with her friend Gizus she goes out in the evening for dancing and drinking. After a year, Marci comes back for holiday, he is full of love.

White-clad figures in gas masks appear from time to time. They are the Program group. It is presumably the behaviour of these characters - the population - who appear in each other's strange dreams that has triggered the desire of businessmen and politicians to call in foreign help to restore order. They have come with unknown aims, and are doing their work in terror. The film is a chain of surreal dreams, yet the feeling is familiar. We are home.

A few days from a daily life of a regular school in Hungary during fifties.

Éva, the young, wild girl, the "wild rose", who was raised by her grandfather, Uncle Ábris, on the country estate, runs away from marriage to her father, the famous divorce lawyer Sándor Sziráky, in Budapest. In Budapest, Eva is welcomed by her kindly grandmother Clementine, who then becomes acquainted with her father's affairs with women. His secretary, Mária, is in love with Sziráky, but to make him jealous, she pretends to be his friend, Dr. Ámon. Mrs Tertayn, who is on the verge of divorce, is also vying for Sziráky. Éva springs into action, brings her father together with Maria after much complication, and finally finds happiness and peace of mind with Doctor Ámon.

It rarely happens that a parent is not happy that their son is serious, hardworking and interested in nothing but work and the land. Well, our Péter Tamássy is like that. Péter's son is only interested in farming, so the father, who was a playboy in his youth, decides that before Péter gets married, he will introduce him to society a little. And to make sure that the child gets into good company, he entrusts him to his old love, the prima donna Ria. (Honthy Hanna in a wonderful movie role.)

A beautiful and comfortable castle, somewhere in the countryside, in Hungary in the 1930s. The inhabitants of the castle have no idea how to escape their boredom, especially Miss Klári. The two burglars sneaking up on her are just what her courtiers need. They decide not to show their faces, but grant the burglars' every wish. To add to the fun, later on, the inhabitants of the house themselves appear in the drawing room dressed as burglars...

After a heart attack, landowner Ferdinand Kerekházy summons his son Ferko Kerekházy from abroad, who, to his conservative father's dismay, sends a wagonload of machines ahead to set up an irrigation system and turn the saline, barely productive fields into fertile ones. The old count doesn't want to hear about his son's plans, and wants Ferko to marry Baroness Zólyomi. Since his son refuses, he disowns him. With persistent work, and the support of the mayor and a young engineer from Pest, the irrigation plan is realized. When the old count, who is always dreaming of grandchildren, realises that his son and the mayor's daughter have fallen in love, he reconciles with Ferko and asks her to marry him.

Pálma, the spoilt daughter of the rich manufacturer, is a true monster in the house. The house staff flee her and even her father can hardly wait to marry her off.
