Flo Menezes is a composer of contemporary classical music, working with more emphasis on the electroacoustic aspect. The DVD De spectris sonorum presents eight of his most representative works, covering 21 years of production, between 1986 and 2007. Created in important studios around the world (Studio für elektronische Musik in Cologne, Germany; Studio PANaroma, in Brazil), the compositions are accompanied by experimental videos by renowned Brazilian artists: Carmela Gross, Branca de Oliveira, Alberto Lefèvre, Kiko Goifman, Jurandir Müller, Regina Johas, Fernando Saiki and Luciana Ohira. The DVD was produced with a DTS 5.1 Surround sound system and is accompanied by 18 posters with excerpts of scores and studies for the works.
This music-video piece denounces the declining state of classical music by throwing a piano into the sea as a symbol of high culture submerging. The experiment focuses a grand piano floating and drifting until it sinks. This video questions the artist's role in today's society and the piano as an icon that submerges, subverted by mass culture.
