Under the twilight at dusk in the vast plain with dog barking a young man Yo-ching and his wife Chiu-yun as well as their daughter are walking toward a giant deserted house. A queer old lady lives upstairs there and arranges them to sleep. Chilly wind blows in the mid-night shaking the old windows. The first night passes under terrible fear. Yo-ching goes out to arrange the matters for his father's bones the next morning. The old lady is out as well. As it turns dark, Chiu-yun and her little daughter feel scared. In the old house, she is terribly scared by one after another and she leaves the old house and by mistake enters another old house and is scared again. Yo-ching finds her and takes her back to the old house. A young lady comes downstairs in the old house to Yo-ching. Who is the mysterious young lady? Is she a human or a ghost? By whom she was murdered?.........

Feet fly, blood spills and bones shatter all the way up to a gripping climactic duel in this 1978 action explosion.

Directed by some of most well known Chinese-language directors of the time, the portmanteau film Four Moods was an attempt to alleviate Li Han-hsiang’s financial troubles during the late 1960s. Arguably one of his best works, King Hu’s short Anger is an adaptation of the famous Peking opera San Cha Kou; set to opera instrumentation and stylishly shot, the film deftly captures the tense showdown between political schemers, avengers and vagabonds inside an inn. Li Han-hsiang’s Happiness, inspired by the Strange Tales of Liaozhai, tells a tale of reprieve for a kind-hearted ghost, while Pai Ching-Jui’s Joy and Lee Hsing’s Sadness both explore the fateful encounters between mortal men and ghostly women.

Told through the story of Xishi (Hsi Shih), one of the 'Four Great Beauties' of Chinese history, the film portrays the war between two Chinese Kingdoms during the Warring States Period (475-221 B.C). After the kingdom of Yue is defeated by the kingdom of Wu, King Goujian of Yue takes pains to prepare for his revenge and rebuild his country. Knowing that King Fucha of Wu is lewd and lustful, he offers Xisi to the court of Wu to serve as Fucha’s concubine, with Fucha unaware that she is also a spy. She uses her charm to draw Fucha away from his office and governance, while King Goujian rallies his forces together to attempt to reclaim his lands.

Jointly and respectively directed by King Hu, Lee Hsing, and Pai Ching-Jui, three major Taiwan directors of the 1970s, this film consist of three shorts with the same cast of two actors and one actress, who through reincarnation meet in three different times.

The movie revisits the shooting of then-president Chen Shui-bian and vice president Annette LU on the eve of the presidential election in 2004. After the shooting, the two won the presidential election. Moreover, the crime suspect was drowned in a near port days after the incident. The assassination case has been investigated by the authority for 15 years; however, several questions surrounding the "319 Shooting" remain unanswered to this day. The movie approaches a dark period of Taiwan history and shows the mechanics of power - in a witty and creative way.
