City of Sunlight

Commissioned to mark the 60th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival, "To Each His Own Cinema" brought together 33 of the world's pre-eminent filmmakers to produce short pieces exploring the multifarious facets of cinema and their perspective on the state of their chosen artform in the early 21st century.

A hundred and fourteen famous Iranian theater and cinema actresses and a French star: mute spectators at a theatrical representation of Khosrow and Shirin, a Persian poem from the twelfth century, put on stage by Kiarostami. The development of the text -- long a favorite in Persia and the Middle East -- remains invisible to the viewer of the film, the whole story is told by the faces of the women watching the show.

Golrokh, an Iranian author, struggles to settle her husband's debts caused by a business partner who left him to bear the consequences.

In a meeting in Thailand, it is decided that twenty tons of heroin to be smuggled to Iran and to be pushed in schools, universities, and even the frontline. While the shipment is being moved on Iranian roads, a detective is killed in Tehran. His successor tries to find the shipment with the help from an addicted inmate and his fiancée.

The ogre eats a goat and also kidnapped Leila for Samad which causes her father to complain against Samad and sends him to jail but the ogre saves him and takes him to the city. There they have more adventures.

A wealthy man marries a young woman named Shirin. Sohrab, who is in love with Shirin, abducts her and takes her to his own tribe, and assigns a young affluent man named Khosrow to bring his wife back to him.

A criminal group intends to murder a girl, but a young man saves her. The girl is the daughter of a wealthy man, and after his wife's death, the father married a widow. The girl's stepmother, a young woman, plotted the girl's murder to inherit her husband's wealth herself. With the young man's presence in the girl's life, the stepmother's plan becomes impossible to execute until the family's father is killed in an accident, and the woman stages the scene to make it appear that the young man committed the murder. The police, based on the evidence, pursue the young man and his friend. The girl decides to help the young man. Eventually, it turns out that the killer is the victim's brother, whom everyone thought had died. With the discovery of the truth, the young man's innocence is proven, and he begins a life together with the girl.

Later, during a trip to Isfahan, he meets Zohreh, another of Parviz's victims. Pregnant with Parviz's child, Zohreh asks Rahmat to pose as her husband before her parents ...

A professor who found out a formula to make diamonds from oil is killed in Tehran and his nephew who is a spy is sent to Tehran by Interpol in order to find the formula.

In the village where Samad lives, the "Fighting Illiteracy" organization organizes a literacy class for the elderly to teach them literacy skills. In order to trap a group of smugglers, the head of the police force arranges a "politics" and sends one of the smugglers he has arrested to the class. The smuggler's friends, who have learned of the presence of their accomplice in the class, try to escape him, unaware of the trap that has been set for them. At the moment when the smugglers want to free their friend and the police station officers are unaware, Samad, who is one of the students in the class, enters the fray and traps the fugitive and the group of smugglers, and delivers them to the police station.

Professor Salim, fed up with his wife's bad temper, announced that he had created an artificial woman.

A man from a respectable and rich family is fascinated by a derelict woman. He intends to marry her, and despite his family’s disagreement, he does it. But the former lover of the girl remains intrusive, until she kills him to defend herself. The distinguished lord procures his daily necessities from the villagers as tribute with the help of his steward. He encourages his daughter, Monireh, to befriend Farrokh. Farrokh dishonors Monireh by giving her a sleeping drug and then flees to the city.

Two friends discover a diamond mine and intend to acquire it.

Reza works in a poultry farm in Isfahan, and after he learns about his father's death, he goes to his father's house and retrieves the chimpanzee that belonged to his father. Reza meets a poor girl named Shirin, whose younger sister Mahnaz is ill and needs money for treatment. Reza discovers that in his father's will, which is hidden in the lining of the chimpanzee's jacket, it is emphasized that there is a treasure map...

A mysterious woman named Fifi, who cooperates with police officers, infiltrates the organization of a group of smugglers...

Roum was conquered by European invaders, and its pregnant Banu (lady) forced to flee for her life. She becomes wedded to an Egyptian merchant and gives birth to her child, Arsalan. The merchant claims the child as his own. Eventually, of course, Arsalan learns of his royal origins and takes it in his mind to reclaim his throne.

"Reza Chelcheleh" is a clumsy young man who has only one friend named "Farrokh" and a dog. Farrokh is a wealthy person who has grown tired of his father's strictness and has turned to a simple life.

Elderly gamekeeper Heydari's encounter with a group of illegal hunters whilst on patrol ends in tragedy.

Two musicians, when they can't find work for themselves, dress up in women's clothes and enter the house of a wealthy woman whose servants are all female; because the lady of the house intensely dislikes men.

This film, based on a well-known novel of the same name by Sadegh Chooback, is about a wronged man seeking revenge. Director Amir Naderi's inspiration for making the film was one of his childhood heroes, the legendary Zar Mohammad, who waged a one-man war against four swindlers and provoked wide spread popular sentiment against tyranny.

While passing the Iranian borders illegally 6 persons are captured by a terrorist group Af'i. The boss of the group is Baktash and they have rivals who are fight them. Meanwhile one of the 6 captured is Shahin who is a secret agent of the Iranian government.

A thief stops stealing and some of his criminal companions are also caught by the police, but he himself is pursued by the thieves.

Reza and Sadegh-Khan are old friends who are engaged in shady deeds. The next day after his wedding, Reza is arrested hauling the dead body of one of his friends. He is sentenced to jail. Years later, freed from the prison, he is now settled in a little town. A letter arrives from Sadegh to invite him back to the capital city in order to attend his son's wedding.

When a cruel and lustful landlord tries to assault Ali Mohammad Sangari's wife, Ali Mohammad and his son, Gol Aqa, rush to save her.
