Cicero - Zwei Leben, eine Bühne

2022 Movie Documentary Music

Eugen and Roger Cicero were father and son, but above all they were extraordinary artists. While Eugen achieved fame as a piano virtuoso in the 1960s and performed with star singers such as Ella Fitzgerald and Shirley Bassey, Roger filled huge concert halls years later as one of Germany's most gifted singers. Their life stories are inextricably interwoven and show fascinating parallels - genius paired with an unparalleled passion, the overcoming of boundaries, the balancing act between commercial success and artistic integrity and ultimately the tragic outcome that still shakes the music world today.

Thus, for two decades Villingen became a jazz mecca, which stars Jean Luc Ponty, Jasper van't Hof, Monty Alexander, Rolf and Joachim Kühn or Gunter Hampel, as well as Charly Antolini, Daniel Humair, Alexander von Schlippenbach and Eberhard Weber still rave about today. The documentary takes viewers on a fascinating journey into the 60s and 70s and tells one of the most incredible chapters in jazz history, which originated in southwestern Germany.

The night of July 12th 2010 was a memorable evening in the history of the Montreux Jazz Festival. The theme of the night was "Singin' and Swingin'" and it starred Roger Cicero and his fantastic Big Band under the guidance of Lutz Krajenski. Cicero and Hs Band gave an electrifying performance with a mixture of swing ballads, seventies' soul and danceable grooves featuring classics like "Zieh die Schuh aus", "Nicht artgerecht" and "Wenn sie dich fragt" and the English adaptations of his hits "Murphys Gesetz" ("Murphy's Law") and "Ich had das Gefühl für dich verlor'n" ("That You And I Feeling"). Reamonn: Eleven (Live & Acoustic At The Casino) poster
FILM

Unique and grandiose - these are probably the two adjectives that best describe what took place in March 2010 in Baden-Baden's Club Casino: a very special acoustic concert - not only because Rea Garvey and his band managed to create an intimate atmosphere and an overwhelming mood. The charismatic frontman and singer proves once again very impressively that he has both entertainment qualities and the special talent to truly touch people with his music. It is the unique mixture of Rea Garvey's sensitive voice, his charmingly idiosyncratic wit, which always creeps in, even though the Irish-born singer now speaks very good German, and the great musicality of the band that made for a magical and highly entertaining evening.
