A young woman named Future is sent from the year 2046 to the year 2011 in Hong Kong. Future was sent by the United Nations in order to get pregnant, where she can then extract her genes and repopulate the earth as 99% of males have become infertile in the future due to attacks from Planet Xucker. Two assassins from Xuckler are sent after her to stop her. Future meets three University students: Felix, Dan-san and Sing. The men are obsessed with female students next door: Chin-chin, Chen-chen and Sai-sai. The students agree to help Future find a mate at the university.

Meanwhile, Hong knows that as the only person who knows that the Qin Emperor is actually impersonated his disciple, he will be worthless once the Qin unites the warring states. To protect his family, Hong decides to uproot his family.

A fortune teller fails to help a prostitute who is facing a deadly calamity. When he meets a young boss of a tea restaurant, he predicts that his bloodthirsty tendencies will lead him to a prison sentence for murder.

It was raining non-stop when Hong Kong was rocked by the tumultuous events of October 2014 (the "umbrella movement"). In a fixed sequence shot, the film captured students meeting each other in the hall, in the rooms, discussing, arguing about or remaining indifferent to the event, while it continued to rain outside.

The title is an allusion to the Chinese gambling game but the story is a treacherous journey with high stakes and a handsome reward. With long shots and sophisticated art direction, Eric Tsang Hing-weng compellingly captures the actors’ performances, especially that of Professor Chow Po-chung’s surprising debut.

'Connected Souls' is produced by HKCS, directed by John Leung Yu and starring Leung Chung Hang, Choi Wai Ki and Timothy Cheng Tse Sing. The story follows a film director as he makes microfilm for HKCS, visiting various service units to learn about the social service stories.
