The series is set in the Russian Empire during the second half of the 19th century, against the backdrop of social upheaval and the Russo-Turkish War. At the heart of the story is the romance between Sofya, a student at the Institute for Noble Young Ladies, and the married Count Vorontsov.

1989-1990. General Secretary of the CPSU Mikhail Gorbachyov begins global transformations in the USSR. He passionately wants to become a star in world politics and for this he is ready to go as far as he can to meet the West. But the perestroika planned by Gorbachyov leads to fatal, irreversible consequences. Intelligence officer Alexander Nechaev finds himself at the center of an operation organized by the intelligence services of several countries. During the months spent in Berlin at the moment of the breakdown of the entire post-war world order, Nechaev changed a lot. He no longer knows who is a friend and who is a traitor, but continues to defend the honor and interests of his Motherland...

The action takes place from April to December 1986. The KGB department of the USSR becomes aware of the interest shown by foreign intelligence services in the Chornobyl nuclear power plant. To establish the whereabouts of an experienced CIA officer, Albert Lenz, who is suspected of espionage, on the territory of Pripyat, Lieutenant Colonel of military counterintelligence Andrey Nikolaev arrives in the city.

For many years, separated by a river, two large families lived side by side in a remote Ural village: the Skolchins and the Ermakovs. After the revolution, they found themselves in two irreconcilable camps. But their children fell in love with each other, and the fates of the descendants of these two families became entwined in a tight tangle.

So the librarian Natalia appears in the man's house. The main character still has not recovered from the death of his wife and hardly accepts another woman in the house. The children are jealous of Natasha's father. It is difficult for a woman to be in this tense atmosphere.

Vladimir Razlogov is a successful businessman. His main assistant is deputy Mark Voloshin, with whom Razlogov has been friends since his student years. Vladimir is also happy in his personal life: Glafir's wife loves her husband very much, and he has maintained good relations with his ex–wife Marina, a famous actress. But one day everything changes... The morning news reports that Razlogov died of a heart attack at his dacha. Left alone, Glafira tries to find out who is to blame for what happened...
