"Arpa-colla" in Greek literally means "Grab and stick", a phrase used to show something that has been done quickly and therefore isn't good enough. This is what the 2 main heroes of the film are doing. The one is a director(Giorgos) and the other an author(Kostas) with communistic ideas, who has won a prize at a festival. They both want to make a movie for the cinema. But every idea they have never comes true, because every time they meet someone to whom they tell their idea, they change their mind, and they want to make a totally different movie, ideas varying from political cinema to Greek historical dramas and modern films with motorcycle gangs. Not a bad attempt for the Greek cinema of the early 80's, which starts to wake up from the hibernation of the 70's.

A mad man, Spyros, wants to marry Marianna, his lively sister. He wants to give her a dowry apartment, but his money is not enough for that. So he has to ask for a loan from his boss. The boss refuses to serve him but as soon as he knows Marianna, he changes his mind. Spyros tries to think of Marianna, who is smirked for his boss's mistress, but he only manages to lose his job. A police officer arrests pitiable Thanasis, who admits to having stolen the trousers of a happy man in the hope of becoming happy himself, after being advised to do so by a Gypsy. He confesses that, in order to marry his girlfriend, he asked to borrow a pair of trousers, but no one would lend them to him, so he went ahead and stole a pair of trousers, but no one was willing to lend him. So he decided to steal one. The policeman assists him and finds the trouser holder and also works for Thanasis. So the latter can now marry his girlfriend and make a family.

Stamatis Kokoras leaves the profession of the fakir and accepts to work for diplomat Petros. Stamatis, however, must sleep during the day and stay up at night.

Marios and Louiza broke up because of the war. Marios goes to the front to fight, and Louiza agrees, under pressure from her father, to marry a wealthy man named Alkis, as she believes that Marios has died. When Marios comes back from the front, he wants Louiza back, and he meets with his friend Alkis, who asks him not to contend for the woman he loves. Louiza gets very upset by the new turn of events and loses her memory.

The film, with many scenes shot on location, constitutes a precious document as it exquisitely captures some of the most important landmarks of Athens and its outskirts, as well as daily life in the 1930s. synchronise moving images with a sound-ondisc system in Greece, using a semiimprovised setup according to press coverage of the time.
